HE Cappuccino workshops in Brest confirm its unique model: the largest covered public square in Europe, and its 35,000 m2 to explore freely, shows an increase in attendance of 40%. Inaugurated in November 2016, the Ateliers des Capucins constitute the cultural, leisure and innovation center that has redesigned Brest. Structured around the largest covered public square in Europe, its 35,000 m2 are today freely explored by audiences of all ages and from diverse origins: families, children, athletes, students, businessmen and tourists.

Every year, the Ateliers des Capucins host between 150 and 200 private, public or semi-open events and register more than 1.5 million visits. 20 “Roommates” are housed there: a media library, a scientific museum dedicated to the Ocean, a theater room, a bookstore, a virtual reality games room, a cinema, a climbing room, a yoga room, craft shops , a brewery workshop, restaurant and coworking spaces, La French Tech Brest + and Le Village by CA Finistère.

econSince the beginning of the year, the Capuchin Workshops have registered 1.8 million visits, compared to 1.2 million in 2022. Visitors to this lively and popular place, which has become one of the most tourist places in the metropolis, have been stimulated by a rich Program: since the beginning of 2023, more than 60 events open to the public free of charge have been organized, including an exhibition dedicated to Banksy.

A rich and diverse program

Each year, the Capuchin Workshops host between 150 and 200 private, public or semi-open events. 95% of the shows are open to the public free of charge and offer opportunities for eclectic discoveries: music, electro or classical, contemporary art, sport, street art.

Among the other notable proposals of the year: Brest Culture Sport (30,000 participants on September 9 and 10), the Longitude de Olas Festival dedicated to radio and podcasts (35,000 visits from February 1 to 5) and the Bretón Deus Festival ‘ta! (28,000 attendees at the festival on November 4 and 5). Until January 14, 2024, the French Polar Institute is also organizing an exhibition dedicated to “Antarctic Perspectives” ((on October 19, a job event organized by the Institute attracted more than 250 candidates motivated by the experience of working in the polar terrain)

Funded by the city and metropolis of Brest, the SPL Les Ateliers des Capucins has a team of 8 employees and an annual budget of 2.5 million euros to manage and manage the site. It also obtains its resources from the rental of events and its 8,900 m2 of commercial cells, distributed in 25 spaces, which will be completed at the beginning of 2024.
